The graduate Middle Grades Education program prepares students for initial teacher certification in middle level teaching (4-8 grades). Middle grades teachers, particularly those with dual concentrations, are increasingly sought out and in high-demand in Pennsylvania as well as across the country.
The College of Education program in Middle Grades Education is designed to ensure our students graduate highly knowledgeable about learning and teaching as well as committed to pre/adolescent learners from diverse ethnic, economic and geographic backgrounds. To that end, our program focuses on building deep content-specific pedagogical knowledge aligned to the breadth of academic standards and the wide-ranging developmental needs of middle grades students.
Temple teachers who complete the concentration in Language Arts learn diverse strategies for developing and supporting students' capacity to communicate ideas through the four main components: listening, reading, speaking and writing. Combined with a second concentration in science education offers additional opportunities for teachers to develop strategies to engage diverse learners in building their understanding of science and technology and the history, structures, properties and processes of scientific knowledge and inquiry.
