Jean Boyer, associate professor and school psychology student, Melissa Holloway, led a school crisis training at Duquesne University on March 1-2, 2018. The two-day training involved working with school personnel on essential responses in an increasingly crisis-impacted educational climate. While the training was scheduled before the school shooting in Parkland, FL that claimed the lives of 17 people, there was certainly a nod to the potential crisis scenarios that school psychologists have to be prepared to face.
The trainings offered strategies in being proactive about addressing the mental health of students, working with parents and guardians, and offering strategies for teachers to provide preventative behavioral interventions for students who may be experiencing behavioral issues.
