The Ready to Fly program is a new program for first-generation students who will begin their first year of college at Temple University in the fall of 2021. A first-generation student is someone whose parents did not earn a bachelor's degree. As a Ready to Fly student, you will:
-       Receive extra support and guidance from Temple faculty and staff as you begin college
-       Meet other classmates in a small, structured group setting
-       Begin two of your courses in early August (and finish them before the rest of your courses)
-       Get a head start on becoming familiar with college-level work and navigating Temple systems and resources

Who can participate?
First-generation college students who will begin their first year of college at Temple University in the fall of 2021 are eligible to participate in this program. This program is currently open only to students who will enroll in one of the following schools or colleges:
-       College of Education and Human Development
-       College of Liberal Arts
-       College of Public Health
-       Fox School of Business

What courses are included as part of this program?
You will take one General Education (“GenEd”) course and one first-year seminar. Both of these courses will be offered by your school or college.

When does this program begin?
The two courses in the Ready to Fly program begin the week of August 2, 2021, and will end by November 19, 2021. The two courses offered in this program will be delivered online. Courses in the regular fall semester begin August 23, 2021 and end December 6, 2021.

Am I required to participate in this program?
No. Participation in the Ready to Fly program is completely voluntary.

How much does the Ready to Fly program cost?
Participating in the Ready to Fly program comes at no additional cost to you beyond your fall semester’s tuition. You will be registered for a total of 12-18 credits—four or five of which will be credits you earn in this program. Your fall tuition rate is the same whether you participate in this program or not, as long as you are registered for between 12-18 credits total for fall 2021.

If I fill out this form, what happens next?
You will be invited to an info session in April or May, where you can learn more about the program and ask questions. Your name will also be shared with an academic advisor in your school or college, who can help you register for the courses that are part of this program. You are not committed to participate in the program until you register for your courses.
