Promoting Equity and Access for Multilingual Students

Multilingual Learners of English (MLEs) students who are learning English as an additional language in school are a sizable and increasing population in schools across the U.S. This growing group brings new responsibilities and opportunities for schools. To support the success of these students, the School L.I.F.E. Project takes a school-wide approach to promote the well-being and academic success of multilingual learners of English.

The School LIFE approach includes a collaborative framework in which all adults in the school and community have an important role to play:

School leaders create welcoming and inclusive learning environments that holistically embrace Multilingual Learners of English (MLEs).

Teachers use evidence-based instructional strategies and receive the administrative support necessary to implement these strategies.

Families/caregivers have resources and strategies to meaningfully engage in the school community and are positioned as experts in helping their children achieve success.
