DEI Partner Organizations

The DEEL Fellowship at Temple looks to partner with ECE organizations around Philadelphia to support the Fellows. DEI Partner Organizations/Project Sites will be responsible for two activities:

Mentoring a Fellow:

  • DEI Partner Organizations will host a Fellow for about one day per month over one year. Fellows will complete a project that supports the DEI Partner Organization but also could extend throughout the City.  Projects should take about 8 months from start to completion.

  • Projects might include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating a centralized ECE staffing pool for different regions of the City

  • Developing and building communication between a network of organizations to support English language learners and their families

  • Designing an on-the-job training package on responsive interaction for working ECE teacher who are new to the field and need support

  • DEEL will provide funds ($2,000) to each Fellow to support these projects.

Conducting a DEI Self-Study:

  • DEEL will guide DEI Partner Organizations in a collaborative self-study, which will involve meeting together to help each group explore how their own practices and services support diversity, equity, and inclusion. Through this self-study, each DEI Partner Organization will set personalized goals, design their own action plan, and carry out that action plan during the 2025-2026 school years.

  • Each DEI Partner Organization will select a representative to attend group meetings once a month over the course of 6 months; DEEL provides $1,000 per organization to support their representative’s time commitment.

DEEL Advisory Board

In order to prepare the next generation of knowledgeable, well-connected early childhood leaders, DEEL needs input from many voices in Philadelphia’s ECE community. Advisory Board members will give input into the kinds of projects that DEEL fellows pursue in their host sites, the graduate coursework from which Fellows pursue, and the content of the monthly seminars we offer Fellows here at Temple. Having a wide range of voices and organizations at the table will help to make DEEL as successful as possible.

Role of Advisory Board Members

We invite local early childhood organizations to select a member of their team to serve on our Advisory Board as a representative of your group. Advisory Board members will commit to a calendar year of service with the possibility of staying on for multiple years. We are delighted to offer a stipend of $1,000 per year to each Advisory Board member.

Advisory Board member activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Meeting quarterly at Temple (lunch or dinner provided)

  • Providing high-level input on Fellows’ projects as they develop, offering encouragement and guidance to make sure the projects have the potential to benefit many stakeholders in the City

  • Making suggestions for increasing the diversity, equity, and inclusion practices of early childhood organizations in the Philadelphia area

  • Examining possible coursework that Temple could offer Fellows and suggesting the most appropriate options

  • Sharing information about DEEL through your professional networks
