For several years, the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) has been focused on various collaborations regarding the recruitment and retention of teachers for Philadelphia and Pennsylvania. In light of these efforts, CEHD continues to:

  • Offer dual enrollment for high school students in PA to take courses connected to education
    • TES
    • Exploratory courses in education
  • Support the teacher pathway programs in Philadelphia schools (i.e., Science Leadership Academy at Beeber, Olney High School, Parkway West, Esperanza Academy, Mastery Charter Schools)
  • Serve on the occupational advisory councils (OAC) for the CTE in Education programs (13.0101) at Science Leadership Academy at Beeber, Olney High School, Parkway West High School and Delaware County Intermediate Unit.
  • Develop articulation agreements between the CTE in Education programs (13.0101) and Temple University
  • Include high school student intern roles for those who aspire to teach within the Future Focus C2L-PHL program
  • Secure scholarship funds for awards to Philadelphia high school students and Catto Scholars from CCP who matriculate into CEHD
  • Partner with and serve on Steering Committee for the Philadelphia Affinity Group Network to recruit network facilitators and participants

CEHD also actively contributes to the Involved in efforts with Philadelphia Citywide Talent Coalition through the following commitments:

  • Serving on the Steering Committee
  • Maintaining long-standing team participation and leadership within the Early Pipeline working group
  • Co-chairing the Youth Summit planning committee

We support efforts to diversify the educator workforce through participation as a current member of the PA Needs Teachers Coalition and the Pennsylvania Educator Diversity Consortium.

Significant past efforts have included hosting the regional and early national conferences of the Black Male Educators for Social Justice and leadership of the IHE Educator Diversity Consortium, the Aspiring to Educate (A2E) Initiative from PDE, and the Pennsylvania Educator Diversity Consortium. In 2023, CEHD secured a $1.4 million grant for support of the above and other efforts to increase educator workforce recruitment and retention.
