Opportunities for Temple Students
CREATE has many paid and unpaid opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, for those who qualify for federal work-study and those who do not. Students should contact Emily Garcia at 215-204-2394 or emily.garcia@temple.edu, or visit her in her office (Ritter Annex 177) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Part-Time and Full-Time Professional Staff Roles
CREATE hires for part-time and full-time roles. They are posted on Temple University’s Human Resources website (which can be filtered to show only positions available in the College of Education and Human Development). Any current CREATE-specific opportunities will also be shared below.
Community-Based Programs
CREATE’s Community-Based Programs offer early literacy, academic enrichment, workforce development, youth mentorship, and kinship respite care supports to Philadelphians.
Family Friends
Respite program for grandparents / kinship caregivers who are raising their grandchildren or other relatives who have disabilities or special needs related to experiencing trauma; offers mentorship support, events, and other educational programming for adults and children; currently supported by a renewable grant from Philadelphia’s Office of Children and Families.
Future Focus
6-week summer career awareness and project-based learning program held on Temple University’s Main Campus for 25 Philadelphia middle grades students ages 12-14 and 5 high school students who aspire to teach. A Connected to Learning – Philadelphia (C2L-PHL) initiative.
Grandma’s Kids
After-school academic enrichment program for children in grades 1-3 at W.D. Kelley School in Philadelphia who are being raised by their grandparents; currently supported by a renewable grant from Philadelphia’s Office of Children and Families
Jumpstart
National early childhood organization that trains Temple students to work with preschool children in North Philadelphia early childhood centers with developing strong language and literacy as well as socio-emotional skills to help them be ready for kindergarten and set them on a long-term path to academic success; there are 30+corps members from Temple who serve preschoolers across 4-6 sites per school year.
TempleCares
Workforce development program for Philadelphia youth ages 17-24 as they prepare for careers in healthcare; free programming available to the youth in medical terminology, CPR and first aid, resume building, professionalism, Certified Nursing Assistant and Certified Medical Assistant skills training, national exam study support, and paid work experiences; currently supported by a renewable grant from PhilaWorks
Thread
Multigenerational mentorship program for Philadelphia youth at risk of failing out of high school, in collaboration with the School District of Philadelphia and Baltimore-based organization Thread; will recruit and support the training and participation of Temple students, staff, faculty, and alumni; currently offered through in-kind support to Thread / SDP.
