The Center at Temple provides professional technical support services to Career and Technical Education schools in Eastern Pennsylvania.
Beginning teachers who make a career change from business and industry to the classroom, generally, have concerns that must be addressed before they begin their teaching experience. These individuals usually come with strong professional knowledge and skills in their career and technical fields but have little or no prior teaching experience. In order to address these concerns, the Center at Temple provides the new teachers a pre-induction, pre-professional instructional experience.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education, through the Bureau of Career & Technical Education, has authorized Temple University Center for Professional Development in Career and Technical Education to administer the Occupational Competency Assessment (OCA) examination for persons who desire to teach on a career & technical education basis. Satisfactory completion of the OCA is one of the legal requirements for issuing a career & technical education teaching certificate in Pennsylvania.
