The College of Education and Human Development will host an in-person graduation ceremony on Thursday, May 6, at 1:30 p.m. at the Temple Sports Complex. At this time, guests are not permitted to attend. For those who cannot attend in person, we invite you to watch the recording of the event on May 6 on the college's YouTube channel. In accordance with public health guidance currently set by the City of Philadelphia, no guests are permitted to attend the in-person ceremony. However, the event will be live-streamed for those who cannot attend to watch, and the recording will be available after the ceremony on the college's YouTube channel. Graduates will receive instructions on how to access the live-streamed event via email.
Yes. During the conferral of degrees, a professional photographer will be taking photos of each graduate as they ascend the stage to be congratulated by the college. Legacy Photographics have been contracted for the College of Education and Human Development's Commencement event.
Yes. Each graduate’s name will be read at the ceremony regardless of their attendance. Graduates will be ordered by degree and graduation term with in-person attendees being announced first followed by virtual attendees.
No, diplomas will be mailed at a later date by the university. A digital diploma is your official diploma showing your degree information and other achievements at Temple University. Your diploma will be available approximately 4-6 weeks after graduating. You will be notified via email once your degree has been confirmed. You will receive an email from Parchment sent to your TUmail or to your digital credential notification email, provided at the time of applying for graduation. That email will explain the steps to claim your digital diploma. A physical diploma will also be available to you. After claiming your digital diploma, you will receive instructions on how to request your printed diploma. The PDF version of your digital diploma is secure to share with third party agencies, employers or attach it to your resume. The PDF version of the digital diploma includes a link to verify the authenticity of your degree. Precautions will be taken to ensure our community is kept healthy and safe, but we also ask graduates to do their part in following the university’s public health pillars. This includes using facial coverings and following the instructed physical distancing measures such as no contact with other graduates or administrators.
The required dress for the in-person ceremony consists of a cap, gown, appropriate hood, and tassel. Graduates should report wearing their academic attire. Honors cords and official student organization sashes should be worn around the neck. No jewelry, flowers, or other adornments should be evident on attire. Cap tassels should be placed to the right. Students are asked to wear comfortable footwear at the venue. High-heeled shoes are not permitted at the Temple Sports Complex because of the potential safety hazards for both students and staff. Instead, students are encouraged to wear wedges or other flat-surfaced shoes when attending their in-person ceremony.
The ceremony will continue as planned despite the weather. Ponchos will be provided in the event it rains.
Yes. Everyone involved in hooding doctoral students must remain masked. The individual who is hooding the graduate stands near them only to hood them. After hooding the graduate, they will step back to at least a six-foot distance from the graduate. Shaking hands and hugging are not permitted.
