At this year’s Annual Convention for the Association for Behavior Analysis International, held in San Franciso, California, Temple University’s College of Education and Human Development Professor Matt Tincani was recognized as a Fellow of the ABAI.

Tincani said, “I am extraordinarily lucky to be among such an esteemed group of people, several of whom are mentors and close colleagues who helped me along the way.” Tincani mentions Temple Professor Emeritus, Saul Axelrod, who specializes in special education for the teaching and learning department, as an example.

ABAI works to support society by developing, enhancing, and supporting the growth and vitality of the science of behavior analysis through research, education, and practice.

The organization has over 35,000 active members from chapters all around the world, but less than 150 current fellows.

An ABAI Fellow is someone who has made outstanding contributions to research, professional practice, or teaching and administration in behavior analysis.

Tincani’s work focuses on behavioral principles to improve outcomes for people with disabilities and other special learning needs.

“I received my PhD in 2002, so it represents almost 25 years of work. I wouldn't say it's been tough, per se, but over a long career, you have highs and lows,” said Tincani. “This was definitely a high moment for me.”

Currently, Tincani is co-principal investigator of a research project exploring how to support individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders in attaining employment in the field of information technology.
