Three College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) faculty members, Jill May Swavely, Jessica S. Reinhardt and Christine Marie Borelli, were honored for their excellence in service and teaching at the Temple University Faculty Awards program on March 16. These universitywide awards recognize outstanding faculty service and innovative teaching that strengthen student learning across Temple. They also reflect CEHD’s mission to advancing equity and academic success for all learners.
Jill May Swavely, professor of instruction in the Department of Teaching and Learning, received the Faculty Senate Outstanding Faculty Service Award. She has demonstrated a deep dedication to Temple and CEHD through collaboration with colleagues, program development and efforts to enhance learning environments and student experiences. “Receiving this recognition as I complete my 25th year as faculty is especially meaningful, as it reflects the long-standing commitment I have felt toward Temple as a whole and CEHD in particular,” Swavely said. “At the core of this pursuit has been a commitment to advancing the work of the College.”
Jessica S. Reinhardt, professor of practice and program coordinator for school psychology in the Department of Psychological Studies in Education, received the Provost’s Award for Teaching Excellence in General Education for her work in general education courses such as AOD 0836 Interpersonal Communication and EDUC 0819 Teens and Tweens. She teaches across graduate and undergraduate programs with a focus on clinical training, culturally responsive practices and mentorship. She also serves as president-elect of the American Psychological Association Division 16 (school psychology). “This award means a great deal, and I receive it with genuine gratitude and a little happy disbelief,” Reinhardt shared. “Teaching a large general education course is its own kind of adventure; you show up curious, you ask students to take risks, and you hope content and skills learned add value to their lives. To be recognized for that feels like an enormous gift.”
Christine Marie Borelli, adjunct associate professor, received the Part-Time Faculty Excellence in Teaching and Instruction Award. In her role, Borelli helps prepare future educators through practice-oriented instruction that emphasizes equity and advocacy. “I am proud to contribute to Temple University’s legacy of access and excellence by preparing the next generation of CEHD-trained educators to be visionary, equity-minded leaders,” Borelli said. “My goal is to ensure our graduates leave Temple as unapologetic advocates equipped with the strategic tools to transform lives and provide every student, regardless of their background, the world-class education they deserve.”
CEHD congratulates our faculty on these prestigious university honors and thanks them for their outstanding contributions to students and the Temple community.
