April 2024

It's midnight on April 14, and I'm struggling to put into words the complete joy and awe of these first two weeks of April (punctuated by both an earthquake and a solar eclipse!).

I started listing all the events on campus involving the College of Education and Human Development. Remember, it's April 14, and I'm confident that I'm missing some things.

First, on April 1, it was announced that Temple University had a record-breaking number of undergraduate applicants for the 2024-2025 school year! We also kicked off Temple Giving Days, where alumni joined forces to support the university (numbers pending).

On April 3, we hosted our CEHD scholarship awards reception and got an early tour of the new TechOWL space.

We then continued the celebration at the Temple-wide scholarship reception, where a new scholarship initiative called Made for More was announced. This scholarship initiative will support incoming students.

On April 5, Temple hosted the Gallery of Success and 30 Under 30 award winners. CEHD recognized Dr. Celeste Malone for her contributions to the field. We also supported the first Temple Women's Conference. (Are you tired yet?)

On April 6, Temple hosted the second annual Cindy's Day of Service, honoring the legacy of faculty member, Cynthia Belliveau.

On April 10, faculty were in Harrisburg to support funding for student teachers.

And then on April 11, the 2024 AERA annual meeting convened in Philadelphia. Over 65 presentations were given by CEHD faculty, students and alumni. As part of the conference, CEHD held two special events.

First, we celebrated the past and future of urban education, formally announcing the return of the master of education in urban education and policy. Second, we held a reception honoring the legacy of Dr. Constance E. Clayton. Our new mission, vision and values were also premiered in this new video.

Owls, you are amazing. And the work you do in your respective fields is remarkable. I am excited to be a part of it all.

Whew! It's time to rest the wings, at least until Commencement!

Warmly,

Kirsten Halker-Kratz
