Meet Jess Incollingo, a secondary English education major who transferred to Temple University from Delaware County Community College to pursue her passion for teaching and make a difference in the lives of others. With an open mind and a commitment to learning, Jess is embracing new opportunities at the College of Education and Human Development.
CEHD: What inspired you to transfer to Temple University?
JI: I wanted to attend college in an urban environment where I could be myself and meet people from all kinds of diverse backgrounds.
CEHD: What did you learn from your experience at Delaware County Community College (DCCC) that has helped you at Temple?
JI: While at DCCC, I learned to speak up more in class and engage with my professors and classmates. That experience helped me become more confident in participating and connecting with others academically.
CEHD: How has Temple helped you adjust to your new academic environment?
JI: Temple has many resources that have helped me feel supported. My seminars with my advisor have been especially helpful, and getting to know my professors has allowed me to use them as resources to expand my knowledge.
CEHD: What advice would you give to other transfer students?
JI: Get to know your professors and attend their office hours, even if you can only stay for 15 minutes. Ask questions about their lectures, skills you'd like to develop or advice on succeeding in their classes. Simply showing up and demonstrating that you care can do wonders for your academic career.
CEHD: What are your goals for the future?
JI: I want to become a high school English teacher, but my main goal is to improve the lives of those around me. I don't know if I'll end up exactly where I plan to be, but I'm always excited to see where life takes me.
