Pyramid Functional Communication Skills Program

Overview

The Pyramid Functional Communications Skills Program provides communication support for young children with autism and related communication delays. It is a collaboration between Temple University's Psychoeducational Clinic and Pyramid Educational Consultants. Children receive individualized instruction from trained graduate clinicians under the supervision of Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), while families are coached on how to support communication at home.

Who the Program Serves

This program is designed for children ages two to six who are not meeting communication milestones, particularly those with limited vocal communication skills. Children without an autism diagnosis may still be eligible, with assessment services available through the clinic.

Skills Targeted

Children in the program learn critical functional communication skills, including:

  • Requesting
  • Asking for help
  • Indicating "yes" and "no"
  • Individualized communication goals tailored to each child

Program Structure

The program runs in 12-week intensive sessions with starting dates around January and September. Children attend twice per week from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Temple's Main Campus in North Philadelphia. In addition, caregivers participate in a weekly parent training session to support skill generalization at home.

Cost

The program operates on a sliding fee scale based on family income. Specific costs are discussed during the intake process.
