Congratulations on joining the Temple College of Education and Human Development community- you're going to love it here. There are a variety of reasons why it's great to be a College of Education and Human Development student! Here are some of our favorites.

  1. The Community

The college has a close-knit community; this is a place where everyone knows your name. Whether you need help with homework, want friends to eat dinner with, or just want to chat with someone new, the College of Education and Human Development students, staff and faculty are always there for each other!

  2. The Faculty

Our faculty are changemakers that impact students' everyday lives. Not only do they prepare lessons in pedagogy, but also serve as consistent resources for students. From leading discussions on equity in education to receiving numerous grants, College of Education and Human Development faculty are powerhouses in the field of education.

  3. Student Clubs and Organizations

The college is home to many wonderful student clubs and organizations. Ian Henshaw, EDU '20, a member of Jumpstart, says, "[g]et yourself involved with working with the children of the area. Do that as early as you can. If you can do that your freshman year, great. If you want to take a year to get acclimated to college and then do it your sophomore year, that works as well. But, get involved as soon as you can."

  4. Outreach Programs

In the spirit of fulfilling Temple University's historic mission, the College of Education and Human Development makes serving the needs of schools and communities a top priority. Faculty members collaborate with teachers, school districts, peer institutions and policymakers to bridge the gap between theory and practice and work to implement change where it matters. Some outreach programs that the college offers are Jumpstart, GEAR UP and Upward Bound

  5. Small Class Size

Small lectures emphasize student-led discussions which help students become comfortable sharing their own reflections with others. In the College of Education and Human Development, students are not just numbers. Each student has an opportunity to share their unique ideas in a welcoming environment.

  6. Immersive Teaching Experiences

"Our field placements give us the opportunity to connect what we are learning in our classes to real life teaching experiences. During this time, we not only learn about best teaching practices, but we also gain experience in things such as classroom management. I truly believe that these opportunities are what prepare pre-service teachers for the situations they will face when they have their own classrooms." - Jordan Ditko EDU '19

  7. Service-based Mission

Since its founding in 1919, the College of Education and Human Development has been a leader in preparing educational professionals who have a transformative effect on the schools or other organizations in which they serve. From taking part in initiatives to diversify and cultivate Pennsylvania's educator pool to providing pre-service educators with courses on how to handle students' trauma, the college continues to make a difference in the educational world. The research, teaching and service of our faculty continue the college's historic commitment to social justice and to improving the life chances of traditionally underserved populations.

  8. Food Culture

Ritter Hall and Ritter Annex are surrounded by delectable food options. Whether you are craving a larger than life burrito from the Mexican Grill Stand or a healthy green smoothie from the two smoothie food trucks, the College of Education and Human Development's home is a prime spot for satisfying anyone's food hankerings.

  9. Successful Alumni

Many College of Education and Human Development alumni go on to serve their communities in marvelous ways. From Temple's 30 Under 30 recipient and special education advocate, Andrew Wollaston, EDU '13, LAW '16, to Gallery of Success inductee, Irene Eizen, EDU '70, '72, '95, our alumni bring pride to the college and are change makers in their respective fields.

  10. In-House Career Support

The College of Education and Human Development offers in-house career support for students looking to get jobs or internships! Students can make an appointment with Erica Johnston, the college's Assistant Director of Career Development, for any career needs including: career exploration, resume/CV writing, crafting cover letters, building interview skills and more.
