The College of Education and Human Development's Intergenerational Center will serve as a key partner in two Philadelphia city grants aimed at assisting North Philadelphia youth.
The IGC will work in collaboration with the Center for Social Policy and Community Development (CSPCD), Temple University Health System, and the District 1199C Training & Upgrading Fund to assist in multiple grant initiatives.
The first grant of $614,000 is focused on 85 North Philadelphia students between the ages of 17 and 21 who are currently part of the city's foster care system. As they begin their exit out of the foster care system, the grant will help fund a project to ease that transition through providing education and training for those individuals to gain employment and additional education opportunities.
The second grant of $637,500 will be the primary funding for TempleCares: Bridge to Employment Program. Students from North Philadelphia high schools will benefit from a health sciences curriculum through a partnership between Temple's College of Education and Human Development and the Temple University Health System, as well as the National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees.
Both grants are a significant victory for North Philadelphia youth.
