In an effort to combat food insecurity on campus, Temple is opening a food pantry in the Howard Gittis Student Center. Sara Goldrick-Rab, professor of higher education policy and sociology and her team at the Wisconsin HOPE lab, along with Temple's Office of Institutional Research and Assessment established a survey aimed at measuring student responses regarding their overall college experience. Part of this survey addressed issues of food insecurity and determined that approximately 35 percent of undergraduate students are not secure in their supply of food. Through the efforts of Challah for Hunger, food drives, and campaigns led through the Rad Dish Co-op Cafe, the initiative continues to gain momentum in a victory for students who may need that extra assistance to ensure they are not attended classes on an empty stomach.
