Sara Goldrick-Rab

Throughout the career of Sara Goldrick-Rab, professor of higher education policy and sociology, it has been her prophetic mission to support underserved college students around the nation. Goldrick-Rab has produced numerous reports with her team at the Hope Center for College, Community, and Justice, bringing attention to the unfortunate, yet prevalent issue of housing and food insecurity on college campuses. Because of Goldrick-Rab and her team's dedication to advocacy and research, changes are being made on college campuses around the nation. Goldrick-Rab and her team at the Hope Center continue to receive well-deserved recognition from major publications, educational companies, and politicians for their hard work. 

During the week of April 29, 2019, Goldrick-Rab and her team's research was recognized in articles in The New York Times, Philly.com and Top Hat.

The New York Times

The New York Times documented several profiles of students experiencing housing and food insecurity on New York College campuses. Goldrick-Rab and the Hope Center's research underscored the urgency of the issue, noting that, "45% of student respondents from over 100 institutions said that they had been food insecure in the past 30 days."

In an editorial by the Philadelphia Inquirer Editorial Board, the authors expressed the need for change as college prices continue to rise. Utilizing the Hope Center's research, the authors assert that college is inaccessible for many students. 

Top Hat

As a part of Top Hat's series, "Academic Admissions", Goldrick-Rab shared her journey to becoming a professor and researcher. Per the article, Goldrick-Rab indicated that her passion for serving underprivileged communities was influenced by her "own struggles with higher ed's affordability and inequality she encountered while researching community college funding." Goldrick-Rab continues to fight for students in need on campuses across the nation, putting a large emphasis on policy reform and greater outreach programs.
