January 2021

Happy New Year!

We are excited for the arrival of 2021, the start of the Spring Semester, a wide array of events and programs to connect and engage our alumni, and we hope you will join us in achieving our goals and making it a great new year.

Many are happy to have 2020 in the rearview mirror and looking forward to a happier and healthier 2021. And, as a realistic optimist myself, I am looking forward to the potential this new year holds. With the Ritter Complex renovations already underway, the number of participants and giving to the College of Education and Human Development on the rise (Giving Tuesday in December saw us roughly double the number of donors and triple the amount given…thank you!), and several new events in the works it is an exciting time and 2021 is already looking up.

This time of year often sees us create resolutions and then break them.  I would like to suggest setting goals versus resolutions. Stephanie Kirby noted in an article at the beginning of 2020, “A resolution is something that you determine you are going to do. Goals are what help you follow through on sticking to your resolution.” Having worked in the athletic and fitness industries during my career, the number of resolutions made and broken at the start of a new year was large, while those who set goals were generally more successful. Writing down those goals or sharing them with others increased the odds of achieving those goals, as did providing specific measurements by which to gauge one’s success. So, with that in mind, here are a few goals for the College of Education and Human Development’s Development and Alumni Relations department this year:

  • To increase the number of alumni who participate in Temple CEHD activities by at least 10%.
  • To deliver at least six Owl Hour presentations that engage a wide array of CEHD alumni.
  • To grow the number of annual giving donors to CEHD and the number of term and endowed scholarships supporting our students.
  • To start a CEHD Owl Network Mentor program in partnership the Alumni Association Board.
  • And, to provide informative and entertaining emails, eNewsletters and publications that help attract and keep our alumni connected with CEHD.

What are your goals for 2021? We hope one of them will be to engage or grow your engagement with the College of Education and Human Development as we look to deliver on the education provided to and support for our students, faculty and staff who continue to persevere and conquer.

Here is wishing you a safe, healthy and more connected 2021,
