Friday, August 23, 2024, as the newest class of Owl Educators filed into Ritter Hall, home of College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) at Temple University, there was a palpable sense of excitement in the air. The Class of 2028, representing diverse backgrounds and aspirations, was officially welcomed into the Temple CEHD nest.

With a deep understanding of the amazing opportunities and challenges ahead, CEHD faculty and staff share their wisdom to help new students transition smoothly into college life.

Danielle Mallon, associate director of enrollment management: "Have fun and study hard. This is about to be the best four years of your life, so just enjoy it!"

Brianna Sanders, senior site manager for Jumpstart at Temple: "Get involved, network, get to know people and build as many connections as possible."

Janet Distel, assistant dean of undergraduate and graduate affairs, Janet Distel: "My best advice is to seek help when you need it, talk to your instructors and find your people."

Timothy Patterson, associate professor in teaching and learning: "Say yes to opportunities that come your way. This is your chance to learn and grow, and that's how you do it."

Amy Letson, web designer for the Institute on Disabilities: "None of us do it alone. Look around and figure out who your team is, who you want your team to be, and start collecting your people who will support you as you continue your journey."

Dean Monika Williams Shealey also delivered a powerful message to the Class of 2028, acknowledging the challenges and triumphs that lie ahead.

"There will be hard days. There will also be those amazing days that you will just say to yourself, 'I'm so glad that I am here,'" said Dean Shealey, as she encouraged students to view Ritter as a home away from home and to utilize the resources available to them.

"Our vision is for everyone to have access to an outstanding education and that starts with you," she emphasized, offering her support as a bridge between students and the faculty and staff.

With these words of wisdom and encouragement, the CEHD's Class of 2028 is poised to embark on a transformative journey at Temple University. The road ahead will be filled with challenges, opportunities and countless moments of growth.
