As the new academic year kicks off, the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) at Temple University is thrilled to welcome the Class of 2028. This diverse group of passionate, driven and inspiring individuals is ready to embark on a journey that will shape their futures and the futures of those they aspire to educate and influence. Here's a glimpse into the stories and aspirations of some of our incoming students.
Jada Jackson-Corbin, an early childhood education major and a proud Philadelphia native, has dreamed of becoming a teacher since she was young. Her journey to Temple was shaped by her participation in the Temple Education Scholars (TES) program during high school. This is a year-long dual enrollment program designed for college-bound high school seniors to take up to five education courses at Temple University in a supportive environment.
"TES really gave me the opportunity to understand what I wanted to do and gave me the motivation to come to Temple," Jada shares.
Jada says what drew her to Temple was the sense of community.
"I went to school around here, and from the outside looking in, I never expected to find such a family-like community," she says. "I'm glad Temple has a community that I could call mine."
Timisha Laurent, a middle grades education major with a concentration in mathematics, comes to Temple from New York City after extensive college research. She says the range of programs available at Temple convinced her that this was the right place for her academic and personal growth.
"Now that I'm here, I just see so many people that I want to be around," she says.
Timisha says she is eagerly anticipating the many activities and events on campus, and hopes to dive into the vibrant campus life.
Haley Mansfield, from Pennsylvania and majoring in early and elementary education, has a deep-seated love for working with children. She comes to Temple with experience coaching gymnastics and working in a kindergarten classroom. "I'm looking forward to learning a lot of new things and meeting new people," she says.
Sadye Scheer, also an early and elementary education major from West Chester, Pennsylvania, says she discovered her passion for teaching through a high school program where she taught preschoolers. She says this experience solidified her decision to become a teacher, and Temple's renowned education program was the perfect fit for her aspirations.
"I'm looking forward to working in a classroom with children eventually," Sadye shares, eager to gain hands-on experience during her time at CEHD.
Hailing from Massachusetts and a member of Temple's fencing team, Sammy Nathanson says she chose CEHD because of her love of working with children. Her three years of experience at a daycare after school fueled her desire to explore this path further.
"I really enjoyed my past experience working with children and I wanted to see where it can take me," Sammy says.
Sharae Hayes, another early and elementary education major and a Philadelphia native, says she chose Temple for its proximity to home and its excellent education programs. Sharae says she is excited to dive into the many opportunities available at Temple.
"I love working with children. Temple is close to home, and I didn't want to go too far. I'm looking forward to all the different things the departments have to offer," Sharae says.
These students represent just a small fraction of the talented, motivated individuals within the CEHD's community of Owl Educators.
