Curriculum Oversight Guide

For Associate Deans and Department Chairs:

Key Responsibilities

  • Encourage early collaboration: Require faculty to consult with administrative units before drafting proposals.
  • Coordinate workload and resources: Confirm the department can support the proposed program with staffing and scheduling.
  • Verify alignment: Ensure proposed programs align with CEHD and Temple strategic goals.
  • Facilitate approval workflow: Oversee timely submission to Department Curriculum Committee and Collegial Assembly.
  • Communicate clearly: Ensure faculty are aware of timelines, expectations, and who to contact for guidance.

Red Flags to Watch For

  • No early engagement with Enrollment Mangaement & Marketing, Academic Operations, or Advising
  • Unclear course sequencing or missing pre/co-requisite structure
  • Unrealistic enrollment targets or unvetted market demand
  • No plan to support existing students during a phase-out
